Scarlett features
My Brazilian Kombi “Scarlett” is reluctantly up for sale.
Scarlett needs a new home – someone to keep up the improvements and give the finishing touches to make a show Kombi.
Mechanically reliable, and with a little more attention to some body panels and the interior, would be a beautiful Kombi.
Scarlett features
Repairs & Maintenance
All WoF rust removed: the sills and corners have been rebuilt; the drip rail repaired; and the entire red front panel has been replaced.
There’s still a few rust spots for improvement, particularly in the passenger and rear doors, around one of the windows, and a few little spots, but nothing structural. Strongly advise inspecting the vehicle to understand where the rust spots are.
The front seats have rips in the upholstery.
Scarlett isn’t a show-car – yet – the interior could still be spruced up, but it’s a great solid mechanical Kombi that starts every time and runs well.

To keep Scarlett running and keep her reliable over the years, I’ve spent a lot:
“1,600cc engine completely rebuilt by legendary VW engine rebuilder John from Whanganui – new pistons, barrels, cam, heads, etc, etc. Runs smooth, pulls powerfully through the rev range, sounds great.
$3,300 - engine rebuilt
“Entire red front panel was replaced due to rust by Classic Auto Refinishers Ltd (previously in Wingate)
$900 - front panel replacement
“The rear rock n roll bed was reupholstered in a beautiful grey colour by Absolute Upholstery in Wellington – someone just needs to finish the front seats!
$1,800 - rear rock n roll bed
“Replaced 2 x front headlights and 1 x rear taillight
$250 - headlights
“The gearbox was rebuilt by Southern Lakes Transmissions in Kaiapoi, after it seized in 4th gear
$1,800 - gearbox rebuild
“More rust work, brake work, shocks, etc. No expense has been spared in keeping Scarlett running.
$000's - ... and more
